Frank G. Wren (1874-1940), A1894, G1897, H1939, was known as the "dean of deans" having held the position of Dean of Liberal Arts at Tufts College for 33 years.

Wren was born in Sharon, Massachusetts, on March 15, 1874.He attended Dean Academy and graduated from Tufts in 1894.He received his Master of Arts degree from the college in 1897. In 1898, he married Mary E. Ingraham, with whom he had one son, Paul, A1926.

Wren joined the Tufts faculty as an instructor in mathematics during his senior year of undergraduate study and remained at the college for forty-five years. He was the youngest member of his graduating class, and then, theyoungest member of the faculty when he became dean of Liberal Arts at the age of thirty. At the same time, Wren was appointed to the Walker chair in mathematics.

During his thirty-three year tenure as dean, the enrollment of the college tripled. He also served for thirty years as chairman of the board of admissions. Wren was a member of the American Academy of Arts and sciences, the American Mathematical Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was also a trustee of Dean Academy. Wren died suddenly at his home at 65 Talbot Avenue on July 17, 1940.

Wren Hall and the Frank G. Wren Faculty Dining Room are both named in honor of Wren.
