Bennett, William Joseph, [1894-1917]
William Joseph Bennett entered Tufts in 1910 and graduated in 1914 from the School of Engineering. For four years he was on both the football and baseball teams. He was captain of the baseball team in his junior year, and of the football team in his senior year. While he was captain, the football team lost only one game (0:2 to West Point). | |
As a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and of the senior honor society Tower Cross he was esteemed for his excellence of character and his genuine good fellowship. He received the Prize Scholarship of the Class of 1882 to recognize his great potential for intellectual leadership and creativity. | |
Lieutenant Bennett died in World War I. A memorial, the Bennett Delta, was dedicated to him in West Medford in May, 1924. The Bennett Memorial Scholarship was created in the same year. | |
