Mead, Leonard Chapin, 1913-
Leonard Chapin Mead (1913- ), H1967, served as acting president of Tufts from 1966 to 1967.He was born in Milford, Massachusetts, on December 28, 1913, and received a B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1936, a M.A. (1937) and a Ph. D. (1939) from the University of Rochester, and a L.H.D. from Tufts University in 1967.He held a variety of teaching positions in the Psychology Department at Tufts, starting in 1939, until his retirement in 1976.From 1953 to 1959 he served as the dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. From 1959 to 1966, he was the senior vice president and provost. He was acting president from 1966 to 1967, after which he resumed his former duties. In 1968, he took a leave of absence to serve as the project specialist for the Ford Foundation at the University of Delhi in India. He returned to Tufts in 1971 and retired in 1979. | |
