Packard, Silvanus, 1789-1866
Silvanus Packard (1789-1866) was born in North Bridgewater, Massachusetts, on April 6, 1789.He was a great supporter of Tufts University. He served as a Trustee of the College from 1852-1866.He gave money to start the college and continued to support it during his lifetime. Silvanus Packard died suddenly in 1866.Packard left the college land and money to create a school of theology in his will. The Packard Professorship in Theology was created in 1869. | |
Packard Hall is named in his honor. | |
