Good-night! Good-night!
Good-night! Good-night!
Curse the tongue in my head That a guest has gone away And I have left unsaid What heart meant to say: God bless your evening road, And bless to-morrow then, Lighten whatever load, And bring you're here again. Time crowds upon us blank, But your talk had a glow That fought the darkness back, And I did not tell you so, Because my clumsy tongue Lacks grace to give good-night. That was a homely wrong, But is my power to right. There are wrongs enough and more Almost past hope to mend, But by Fire and Good and Door, Let this one have an end. | |
