Me and the Captain made a trip, And all the cargo we took In our single-masted ten-foot ship Was a book and a book and a book. | |

Captain said he would need his pipe And a book by a man named Lamb, I had an apple just turned ripe, And bread (with strawberry jam.) | |
I took my book on the siege of Troy And the wooden horse and the Greeks. The Captain called it deep for a boy, But I had been reading it weeks. | |
I pushed her off and hoisted sail When the Captain showed me how, And though he had said we'd get no gale, It was foamy under the prow. | |
