Collected Poems of John Holmes
Holmes, John A., Jr.
If books could sing there would arise
From sagging bookshelves, harmony -
The counterpoint of many songs
Blending in bookish symphony.
The classics in low and sober tones
Would sound the base and underlie
The poet's lighter sweeter notes,
And o'er the musics. clear and high
Will Shakespeare's pleasant voice would raise
A song from Sonnets and His Plays.
