Spring morning
My heart, it was that woke me, With a clatter and a shout. And I dressed as for a fire, In my hurry to be out. | |
I tried my best to wake you. I kissed you on the ear, And pulled your nose and called you, But you wouldn't even hear. | |
I raced around the corner, And headed for the hill. A colt could run no faster, But the sun was faster still. | |
For he'd gotten there before me, And had launched the clouds abreast On seas of green and amber For their journey to the west. | |
When I came back to breakfast There was laughter in your glance. You didn't know, since sun-up That I'd been across to France. | |
When I came back to breakfast There was question in your glance. In the morning in the springtime I had been across to France. | |
