Collected Poems of John Holmes
Holmes, John A., Jr.
Reddening the western sky, the sun drops down
O'er earth's far rim, and darkness falls.
Slowly the stars blink out above the town.
Silent the streets that heard the children's calls,
And even the window lights are out or low.
Ghostly the moon it's night watch keeps
O'er darkened streets and roofs, and slow
The wind stirs shadowy trees. The town's asleep.
