From where I stood, or so it seemed, For this is something I have dreamed, Ten feet of ground was cut away. I saw the roots as clear as day That from a tall tree downwards burst As God Himself had seen it first. The earth was clear as clear the air Was round the boughs, and lightly there A million leaves of every green Moved, yet no moving could be seen, So slightly stirred the tree. It grew. No more.
