Totem
I you someone who does not know what shape he has or had stands off and takes a slow look at what he has hacked out of hard wood a long time growing and sees there is a body old bonepile stub arms a face and faces stone-scars knotholes blind eyes aimed all ways wing-joints beak gouges butts of branches lopped some parts painted rubbed now burn even words or names cut knees mouths fist a heart fins a wheel the trunk straight its round the thick where he let it be and grow this is the way he looks to others he thinks after he goes back inside and is again his totem. | |
