First love recalled
First love recalled
One night I found you, who had known you long. And suddenly and wonderfully, I knew I loved you. In that moment, no one knew Or ever can, our bliss, or how you lay Long silent in my gentle arms, while the kiss, That first kiss, still bewildered me. The few Girls I had known had never raised in me The fire. At last you stirred, looked up Into my eyes, one long, long look, And then away, and nestled closer. Moments passed. I dared not breathe Lest I disturb the happiness. Then later After we could talk (all breathlessly) you said, Tomorrow in the daylight, can I face you Knowing this, our love, and still not fly to you Before all other people!" And I laughed And held you closer. " Let to-morrow be", I said. To-night we need not think of that. I love you, and have found you. 'Tis enough". | |
