Reading through the old notes, I read "-gre

At events,"followed by "image of sword,"

And then, "must look up what French say."

But I was still staring at -gre, that word.

Was it to be sangre?

That seemed something Norman, and wrong.

Gristle. Grumous, Graveled. Granu-lay?

Had I been grizzled at events? Very strong.

Sounds Saxon, no. Danish, yes. Gru,

Meaning horrifying, repulsive, but whence

From the old Danes came this word new

Into French? I looked again. "Great Events."
