I can never be alone
I can never be alone
Wonderments burst on wonder, delights blaze, Sitting alone, reading Whitman. But the world is with me, I can never be alone. Somewhere above the house an airplane Draws a deliberate line on the blue air. Across the trees, across roofs with people under them Dressing, eating, lying abed, arguing, cooking, idling, Spring the towers of my college. The hum gets into my blood-pulse, races there, The flying-joy surges in my head, My blood pounds. The college has me, I am one of the eager, one of the lovers of life, I have the college in me. Here is the huge world, the world rushing, busy, With things of might and wonder filling its morning; My college, an airplane, Whitman's preface All these loved, all part of me. | |
