Dutch dream
Dutch dream
Young Father Knickerbocker Had a bad dream Drowsing with his pipe By the bank of a stream.
He moaned and turned over, And suddenly awoke, And picking up his pipe Puffed a cloud of smoke.
He watched it blow away from him, Float, and flatten, Till it hung like a Above Manhattan.
Tall shapes burst upward Like granite flowers, Pinnacles and palaces And topless towers;
In a million golden windows Shone golden skies. . . . Young Father Knickerbocker Rubbed his eyes:
Green in the sunlight The island stood. Tank Gott, it didn't happen And it never could,"
