Sleepless
Sleepless
From where I lie on couch of blankets spread By the dull embers of a dying fire, I see the moon's bright pathway leading To the shore where I have laid my bed. A silence, deeper than the robes of night Spread thick above, is pierced by lapping waves Upon the shore. The whole world is at rest Beneath the faint stars glimmering light. But I lie staring, sleepless, wide awake, Further from sleep than creatures of the wood At highest noon. And I can find no rest Though wearied by a day's work on the lake. For a face haunts me through the day and seems To come by night to keep me from my dreams. | |
