This time surely
This time surely
Put all the past behind. One bird we sent away Will come back with its kind, And come this time to stay.
Beneath the great green tree Where once it had a nest, Again stand close to me, Again stare east and west.
We have not long to wait Until with an airy thunder Our ears reverberate, Our eyes are filled with wonder
To see the flock fly home, And, wheeling down in flight, Come suddenly to bloom, And turn the green tree white.
