The new porch
The new porch
We'll tear that front porch down first thing Monday, The landlord's carpenter said, before it buckles, And Tuesday an Italian set three concrete posts, Wednesday the men had the floor laid, and new steps. By Friday the pillars, upstairs porch, and railings Were all done and painted yellow, as good as new. We went in and out a hundred times, it was so new. At that time, Ohio was west of there, and Seattle, And Japan. East of there was Paris and Mt. Arrarat. The North Pole was north of us, and south of us The Antarctic with the South Pole in its middle, Overhead Venus tonight again, and now the sun. And in Ireland in the eighteenth century a man Patched the east Corner of his house, like new. In a room in Norway, a woman is moving the chairs, To the astonishment of three boys and a girl, As in China in April two thousand Aprils ago An old man brought a green jar into his hut, And everyone there knew everything was different . Remember us help us save help oh save us. | |
