A ship's figure-head
A ship's figure-head
Breathing the sea with her bright head in wind-spray, daring the hungry uprush of each wave, She is the soul of the ship, and her courage returns to her makers the spirit they gave. Deep-set her eyes are, and blue as the sky is; they look on bleak capes and sea-ports and stars, See the sunset and the moon rise on strange seas, and dream in the night of lone beaches and bars. Forward she looks, with no knowledge of turning, land far behind her, adventure once more; Onward she goes o'er the unquiet ocean, eyes ever set on a new distant shore. | |
