Collected Poems of John Holmes
Holmes, John A., Jr.
The deepening twilight is the homing hour
When men returning from the labor of the day,
Look forward to the quiet of the fireside;
And tired, hungry children leave their play.
it is the hour when all the people of the city
Are gathered round their lamplit boards;
The quiet hour, when those who have no home
deserve the charity of other men, and pity.
