Fairies by night
Fairies by night
The round white moon lays down a path O'er the world in sleep entranced, And down its silvery, slanting length
The moon beam fairies dance.
The rays of the moon have wondrous power When they soften the blackness of the night. They cast o'er the shadowy reaches of the wood A concealing and beauteous light.
When mortals sleep, the fairies run Down the path of the moon's white way, Join hands in a frolicking fairy dance, Pixie, and wood nymph and fay.
In the magic circle of feathery grass They sing the whole night away, Till the sun comes up, and the magic's gone, And they fly from the coming day.
