Song of my elf
Song of my elf
I dance - and dance - And sing an elfin song, And laugh - and laugh - All the whole day long, TO think of really funny jokes That I can play on working folk Like you. I sit sometimes on your elbow To make your writing slow And then sometimes on your elbow To make your writing slow And then sometimes on your elbow To make your writing slow And then sometimes get off and push. How fast your pencil goes! And you think that it's you But it's really me Dancing and laughing In elfish glee. I turn back the page of open books Or push your pipe on the floor, And I wonder how you possibly can't Have heard me laughing before. I shout - and cry - In elfin laughter light At you - at you - You're such a funny sight. With shell rimmed glasses on your eyes And wrinkles your brow, Especially when you heave such sighs And try to think just how To write a poem. I laugh - I shout - I stamp my elfin heels. I sing - I dance - I know just how you feel. I dance a dance across the desk, And whirl beneath your nose, And leave on papers inky marks - The imprint of my toes. So laugh - laugh - And dance a dance with me, A dance as wild and free and fast As dance could ever be. Dance! | |
