The angel of love
The angel of love
Swift on the wings of wonder, With eyes that shone like flame, Put of the storm and thunder A bright-robed angel came.
Low to the man who saw him He spake in words of gold Of the Love of God who sent him, That never can grow old.
And hearing, all men believed it, Lifting their hearts anew, And humbly all men received it And holy wonder grew.
Men lived together in peace then And each was brother to all; Forgotten was bartering golden, Forgotten war's loud call.
Deep in the hearts of nations Was love for their fellow-man, And all knew the deep elation That only loving can.
And lo! on the breasts of the blessed The poor, the weak, and the old, THe crosses that hung as a token were changed to crosses of gold!
