Steps are very cheering things, I think.

A laughter than can be no special gift

To me, and may be yours, will come,

To see their broad and regular lift.

So sure they go, step after step,

And always up. The good encouragement

Of railing makes me think that life

Is steps, each one as firm and confident

As these, with help along each side,

Up through the years, all strong and fair and wide,
