Recent Alteration in the System of Licensing, and its Effects.
On the whole, the alteration made some two years since, of placing the licenses of cabs in the hands of the Commis- sioners of Police, has worked well. Greater strictness is exercised in not allowing licenses to men of known bad character. The 700 licenses taken away last June, to which previous reference was made, illustrate this very forcibly. More stringent rules have been issued, especially with regard to stands, while this work has been passing through the press, the effects of which have yet to be determined. | |
