In , the number of hackney-coaches was limited to 200; in , to 300; in , to 400; in , to 700; in , the number was increased to 800, but this was not to take place till the expiration of the then licenses in ; in , the hackney-coach licenses granted were extended to 1,000, which was made 1,200 in , at which number it continued till hackney-coaches ceased to exist; so that, in , this was the total of hackney carriages plying for hire in the streets of London. | |
