This is an ancient fraternity, and was incorporated with that of the carmen, by letters patent of James I. in the year , with whom they continued till the year , when being found guilty of mal-practices, they threw up their charter to avoid a more severe punishment. However, by an act of common council passed in the year , they obtained the privilege of keeping carts (exclusive of those kept by carmen) for the more effectually executing their business. | |
