In Appreciation
THE HISTORY OF TUFTS REMEMBERED WITHIN THESE PAGES is a history resplendent with acts of sacrifice, commitment and loyalty generously performed by its alumni and friends. While too many to record individually, none of these sacrifices was unimportant, none was unappreciated.
The effort undertaken by the members of the Tufts Alumni Council to republish this written history of Tufts' first one hundred years was no different. The gifts ranged from the nominal to the magnanimous, yet none was unimportant, none was unappreciated.
Like Tufts' illustrious past, only a few of the major contributors who made this republication possible can be remembered individually, but I am pleased to have this opportunity, on behalf of all alumni, to acknowledge the special contributions of the Class of 1959, whose senior class gift made possible the initial publication of Light on the Hill and whose twenty-fifth reunion gift underwrote the start of this republication effort,
Dr. and Mrs. Jean Mayer, whose generosity in support of this project was as multifaceted as their contributions to Tufts,
the friends of Tufts who chose to honor a special alumnus, Irving W. Janock, A50, through their support of this project,
Mr. and Mrs. William S. Cummings for their personal financial generosity, and
Linda J. Dixon, whose energy, enthusiasm and expertise shepherded this project from its inception to its completion.
