Abstract: According to the previous research, the lack of knowledge about
technology and developmentally appropriate pedagogical approaches to bring it to the
classrooms, in addition to the low level of sense of self-efficacy, and positive attitude
towards teaching with technology, are among the major impediments to the successful
integration of new technologies into early childhood classrooms. ... read moreThe focus of this research
as part of a three year long NSF funded project, "Ready for Robotics", is to seek
strategies to be used towards resolving the problem stated above. The current thesis
reports a study in which 32 early childhood educators participated in a professional
development workshop on the integration of robotics as an educational intervention into
their traditional classrooms. Results show a statistically significant increase in the
level of knowledge in all the three areas of technology in general, pedagogy, and robotics
content, along with non-numerical positive effects of the workshop.
