                    <abstract>Thomas Whittemore was born in 1871, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Whittemore and grandson of Rev. Thomas Whittemore. He was a professor of English and then Fine Arts at Tufts from 1894 until 1912. </abstract>
                    <p>Thomas Whittemore was born in 1871, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Whittemore and grandson of Rev. Thomas Whittemore. He graduated from Tufts College in 1894. He was a professor of English and then Fine Arts at Tufts from 1894 until 1912. He was an officer with the French Red Cross from 1914-1915 and was a director of the Committee for Education of Russian Youth from 1915-1931. In 1950, he posthumously received an honorary degree from Tufts College.</p>
