Before beginning this assignment, please read the extract from Sandra Newman & Howard Mittelmark's book, How Not to Write a Novel. As a class, we will be compiling our own guide, along similar lines, called How Not to Write a College Paper.  I have written the first entry for you to follow as an example. Each student will contribute one entry and once all entries are complete, I will be sending the guide out to all of you in the hope that it will be useful to you as you write your papers during the rest of the semester and beyond. I will message each student individually with a prompt for their entry. All entries, however, should conform to the requirements listed below.

Like the examples in Newman & Mittelmark's book, your entry should:

- Be formatted with a title and a subtitle that I will provide. (If you have a specific idea for an entry that you would like to write instead, please email me for approval.)

- Include an example paragraph of bad writing followed by a paragraph of explantation.

- Adopt a humorous tone. Your writing should be enjoyable to read as well as instructional.

- Be around 250 words long.

If you would like to continue with the example of the essay on peanut butter, you are welcome to do so but you do not have to. Please upload your completed entry to Canvas by the beginning of class (4:30pm Eastern Time) on Wednesday February 10. Happy writing!
