It offers a view of Goddard Chapel that depicts the space and office as a source of ethical leadership during Tufts’ growth as an institution of higher education, and John examines the ways in which the physical building has become an icon for the contemporary ethos of religious pluralism.
Acknowledgements from John: There are many people I want to thank for their support in making this project a reality. First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to each of the individuals who participated in oral history interviews with me--without their stories and trust this project truly would not have been possible. I am indebted to the wisdom and insights of the staff at the Tufts University Chaplaincy, the guidance and provocations from Cathy Stanton, Tatiana Chudakova, and Anne Moore, and the funding from Celebrate Discovery Inc. to support my summer research. For my peer researchers and scholars, thank you for your solidarity and constant reminders that I was never alone in this endeavor. Finally, thank you to all of my beloveds for extending your patience, endless encouragement, and sharing in laughter and joy throughout this journey.
