Parallel text alignment in the 21st century participates in a long-standing scholarly practice around Iliadic texts. The tools ... read moreused to describe and explicate alignment in the 21st century are born-digital and machine actionable. One such tool, Ducat, was applied to portions of Omega 1.12, an 11th century Byzantine manuscript of the Iliad that includes a running prose paraphrase, also in Greek. The paraphrase is marked by lexical simplification and cultural variation, serving as both a translation and a commentary on the poetic text.
