Several patterns have emerged from the study and the discussion of this subject. One is the evolution of the literature from more general predictions about climate change, environmental events such as desertification and sea level rise, and population growth and migration, to more specialized studies on the direct impact of climate change and the environment on migration. At the same time, the few completed studies that have been conducted conclude inconsistent and conflicting results about climate and environment induced migration. This leads to the other pattern: diverging views on how to conceptualize the subject and its implications for the protection of climate change migrants, and on whether and how to create and implement policy to ensure protection. Thus, this state of the art review will track the discussions and provide some analysis of debates.read less
