Its peacebuilding process during the 1990s was so successful because of five key factors: shared identity, leadership, inclusiveness, local ownership, and innovation rooted in tradition. The experience of Somaliland can offer insights into how to improve the situation in the rest of Somalia. This piece analyzes Somailand's peacebuilding process in the context of modern Somali history, and proposes certain measures that could help promote peace and stability in the rest of Somalia.read less
