Abstract: Abstract The Arlington Community
Trabajando, Incorporated (ACT) is a community development organization located in Lawrence,
Massachusetts. ACT serves a primarily Latino neighborhood. This research set out to explore
whether community development literature accurately reflects the experiences of small,
grassroots, and minority, community development organizations. Community development
... read more literature was reviewed and key tenants of community development were extrapolated. A case
study was conducted to provide experiences for comparison with the literature findings. Key
informant interviews were then conducted with people affiliated with ACT and key experts in
the field of community organization to provide both a deeper understanding of the
organization itself and the broader context in which it operates. Findings point to the
unique nature of these organizations and the role they play within their
neighborhoods.
