Abstract: Positive Youth Development (PYD) is an approach to programming designed to better engage disconnected youth who face greater workforce related challenges than their counterparts with stronger positive ties to family, community and peers. This thesis utilizes a survey ... read moreand informant interviews to assess youth participation, relationship quality and formation, and youth perceived benefit as indicators of perceived effectiveness at the United Teen Equality Center in Lowell, MA. In addition, youth were analyzed by subgroups in order to determine who perceives benefit in comparison to their peers. The study found that generally youth do feel benefitted by UTEC's PYD programming, although this perception differed somewhat by subgroups. Additionally, youth perception of benefit was not found to be an indicator of utilization of UTEC personnel as resources when a youth was having a personal problem.
