Abstract: With the
increase of use of polymers and composite material in today's high-tech industries,
there is a growing need for efficient and reliable engineering analysis of composite
material behavior. This project involved the development and evaluation of small
composite tubing (Angiographic diagnostic catheter) for use in Angiographic
Procedure/Operation. The development involves ... read moreseveral physical characteristic tests.
Sufficient samples of catheters were designed and manufactured according to a design of
experiment matrix. The samples were manufactured according to a typical catheter process
flow from the compounding process to final curve bake process (shaping the catheter to
three major curves Right, Left and Pigtail). Then ten samples or more of each catheter
design went through the physical testing to determine the best catheter design for final
design . In addition a mathematical model for fluid flow rate, and torque analysis were
developed and compared to the physical testing. A statistical t-test comparison between
certain groups also was utilized to determine the difference between the tested groups.
As a result of all analysis, a final catheter design was selected for final design and
marketing.
