This represents a departure from the films of the 1990's, and continues the evolution of the role of minorities in Russian history and culture. Analyzing some of the most financially and culturally significant films for their depiction of the hero, this thesis reveals a tendency among Russian directors to place non-Russians in positive roles, which has garnered government support. These films tie into a greater debate on Russianness, and raise questions about why these characters are included and what path this will take in the future. %G eng %[ 2022-10-07 %~ Tufts Digital Library %W Institution
