Recently, government implemented multiple measures to address this issue. Plate registration restriction was announced in the 2010 and in 2014, there was a major change to the policy to promote electric vehicles. Electric vehicle buyers did not have to join the same lottery pool as other buyers after that. The impact of an electric vehicle on the air quality depends on reginal generation mix and Beijing is highly relied on fire power plants. This paper will empirically analyze the impact of this adoption policy by examining the relationship between air quality after 2014 and lottery results. The outcome shows that there is little effect from the policy but power plants exhibit significant impact on the air quality.; Thesis (M.S.)--Tufts University, 2018.; Submitted to the Dept. of Economics.; Advisor: Ujjayant Chakravorty.; Committee: Kelsey Jack, and Gilbert Metcalf.; Keyword: Economics. %[ 2022-10-12 %9 Text %~ Tufts Digital Library %W Institution
