Abstract: This thesis assesses transit accessibility in the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) service area through two factors: where the poor transit access neighborhoods are and what the conditions are of riders' commute to work. This study was carried out by using spatial analysis by measuring the level of demand and supply of transportation services. This methodology is supported ... read moreby several studies reviewed in the literature review. Once the areas of poor transit access where located, assessment of the daily commute from these neighborhoods to employment locations was performed. The issues identified from the travel-time assessment includes: the issue of walking distance to the nearest bus or train stop, the problem of infrequent and unreliable transit services and the lack of pedestrian's amenities. These findings and future research will be essential to guide transportation providers and planners as well as municipalities to know where network services need to be extended.
