- My work investigates a current and growing relationship with technology, as well as the ways communities develop within digital space. ASMR performers will often combine soft spoken word and repetitive gestures (such as tapping1) to evoke a sensorial response in their audience made up of remote individuals that watch and listen via media sharing sites. Through the use of audio and visual content and spaces of online communication, the subculture of ASMR creators and audiences has produced positive results against issues of mental health and insomnia.2 I question what happens when these small, independent organizations of people are co-opted, and how that effects a space of comfort and community once it becomes monopolized by a larger system for capitalist gain.read less
