The assumption in ... read morethe international community has been that the North Koreans and the Chinese share a "lips and teeth" friendship that spans five decades. While it is true China came to North Korea's rescue during the Korean War and that today China is North Korea's biggest economic benefactor, these two factors ignore the actual complexity of the contemporary relationship. The central argument of this thesis will be that the current understanding of the Chinese-North Korean relationship is vastly overstated in the direction of a positive interaction and if it is reassessed, the international community would find that the two supposed "partners" are further apart than is commonly known.read less
