Previous research has found that unattractive and black individuals are discriminated against in the job selection process. Experiment 1 aimed to investigate, within the Tufts University undergraduate population (N = 67), the interaction between racial phenotype and attractiveness. Experiment 2 explored, in a more general sample (N = 188), the interaction between racial phenotype, attractiveness, and level of qualification. Consistent with hypotheses, analyses revealed significant interactions for both studies; however the results were not in the predicted directions. This implies that while the three variables individually affect employers' judgments, when combined they are more effective.read less
