This thesis research examines Somerville, a Boston-adjacent suburb, exploring housing and housing affordability concerns and families' reasons for moving into or out of Somerville Public Schools. Families who moved out of or into the school district within 2018-2019 were invited to participate, and survey results have valid responses from 36 exiting families and 11 incoming families. Quantitative and qualitative survey analysis includes relative frequency of responses, coding themes, and highlighting selected open-ended responses. Many families exiting Somerville were upper-middle-class income bracket and moved within 55 miles of Somerville for housing that was larger and less expensive.
