Episodic memory — the type of memory witnesses rely on when testifying — is memory for information that was previously encountered and for the context in which that information was encountered. Episodic memory works most effectively when it operates in tandem with metamemory. Metamemory is a metacognitive process subdivided into component processes of evaluation and regulation.
