To do this, a new framework was developed that consciously extends the existing models of the role of the press in international conflicts to include the proclivity of armed political opposition groups to view foreign reporters as combatants and use violence against them. Ultimately it is determined that there is no fundamental change, and that the framework explains the different attitudes of armed opposition groups tow! ards reporters. Instead, the increase in violence reflects the Iraq situation specifically, which is characterised with more such opposition groups than seen in past conflicts and more having the characteristics of the most violent towards reporters, as described by the developed framework.read less
