Buildings located both to the north and south of the demolished hotel remain standing. Shingles and other debris lay in piles on Ash Street. A workman can be seen standing on a rubbish pile in front of the demolition site, while another can be seen standing behind the street-level windows of a building to the south of the hotel, apparently speaking to a passer-by standing on the sidewalk. A sign advertising ale hangs from the facade of the building. A portion of the partially constructed Boston Elevated Railway can be seen at the corner of Ash and Oak Streets, to the south of the demolition site and near the lower-left side of the photograph.
