Although the state we are living in is temporary, there will certainly be significant long-term societal shifts. For most Americans, the largest source of wealth, if they happen to have any, is their home. But what happens when the future is uncertain and long-term investments in real estate begin to look much less attractive? What does the future look like when generations of people are unsure if that future will include a habitable planet? Greta Thunberg speaking before the United Nations put it best: “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.” With humanity shifting our thinking for a changing planet, what kinds of shifts do artists need to make in their practice? My work is changing as I have been socially isolating due to the pandemic. I have since been answering my own question and creating new works.
