This collection contains annual reports and pamphlets generated by the Tufts University Conference Bureau.
This collection is organized in two series: Annual reports; and Pamphlets.
The Tufts University Conference Bureau, now known as Tufts University Conference and Events Services, was established in 1973 to provide "business, industry, government, professional associations, and special interest groups with individualized conference services." The department is in charge of coordinating personalized services for conferences, workshops, academic programs, summer activities, and other organizations that host events through Tufts University. The department also organizes and facilitates special events for the University itself, including Parents and Family Weekend and Commencement. Services provided by Conference and Events Services include dining and catering, housing and accommodations, facilities and amenities, as well as access to local areas. In late 2014 or early 2015, the office changed its name to the Tufts University Conference and Events Services.
Marjorie Farley founded the bureau in 1973 and was promoted to be Director of Conference Services in 1975. It was founded as a way of providing service for conferences, workshops, and other programs held on the Tufts campus, with an emphasis on programs held during the summer break. One of the main goals was making use of vacated facilities on campus during the vacation months, and in doing so, generate income for staff that might otherwise lose work during the vacation period. The university also planned to use income from the program to improve existing facilities on campus.
